Meet ECC's Spring Writer’s Lab 2022

Welcome Exquisite Corpse Company’s Spring Writer’s Lab 2022 Cohort!

All previous ECC playwrights-in-residence got their start with us by applying to our Writer’s Lab. There is no better way to get involved with ECC if you are a playwright.

The ECC Writer’s Lab will meet at the Culture Lab LIC gallery this year and create work in collaboration with the Gallery's artists. The Lab's goal is for each participant to generate a new one-act play using ECC's unique literary devising process.

This process is led by Literary Directors Phillip Christian Smith and Blake Bishton and incorporates Culture Lab LIC’s current fine arts exhibitions. These plays, upon completion, will be presented as a part of ECC's Drinks & Drama reading series in July.

jose sebastian alberdi (he/him)

jose sebastian alberdi is a mexican-basque-american playwright (with a splash of tv aspiration). originally from san diego, ca, he now lives & works in new york city & writes about queerness, faith, power, & other things he finds interesting &/or important. he has developed his plays with the huntington theatre company, speakeasy stage, the workshop theatre, fresh ink theatre, sparkhaven theatre, teatro chelsea, & campfire theatre festival. b.a. in english from northeastern university & current mfa in dramatic writing candidate at nyu tisch. @milk_jello on twitter & ig.

Molly Bicks (they/them)

Molly Bicks (they/them) is a writer and theatre-maker based in Brooklyn. Bicks is the co-artistic director of Rat Queen Theatre Co, where they co-create devised musicals that reimagine American history. Their work has been presented at The New Ohio, New Light Theatre, The Tank, The Brick, The Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center, China Town Soup, Art House New Jersey, Dixon Place as well as at Portland Stages and WTF. Bicks is currently co-writing a new virtual musical, The Goddamn Tooney Lunes, which was developed in Fresh Group Pepper's playgroup and will be produced by Colt Couer in Spring 2022. Their play, Miss Atomic Power, was a runner-up for the Yale Drama Series Prize and a semi-finalist for The O’Neill Summer Conference. Their play, Lily, was a finalist for the Clauder Awards.

CAYENNE DOUGLASS (she/her)

CAYENNE DOUGLASS has had work developed and/or produced at Ensemble Studio Theatre, Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Theatre Masters, Fresh Ink Theatre, New Perspectives Theatre Company, Dixon Place, The Tank, Clutch Productions, City Theatre Miami, FEAST: A Performance Series, and Manhattan Repertory Theatre. She has participated in The First Stage Residency through The Drama League, The Barn Arts Residency, and The Emerging Artists Residency at Tofte Lake. Cayenne has been a finalist for The Bay Area Festival and The Playwrights’ Center Core Apprenticeship two years in a row. She has been published by Smith & Kraus and Concord Theatricals/Sam French. Cayenne is currently in The BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, Company One Theatre’s Volt Lab, and The Exquisite Corpse Company Writers Lab. Alyssa Haddad-Chin (she/her)

Alyssa Haddad-Chin (she/her) is a Brooklyn-based playwright and teaching artist of Lebanese
and Italian descent. Plays include Off-White; Or The Arab House Party Play (2021 Bay Area
Playwright’s Festival Semi Finalist, 2022 Lanford Wilson New American Play Festival
Semifinalist, 2021 The Playwright’s Realm’s Writing Fellowship Finalist), The Newlywed Game
(2020 NAPseries Semi Finalist, 2021 Youngblood EST Finalist, 2021 Athena Project Plays in
Progress Winner), and The Ancestry Dot Com Play (2019-2020 Art House Productions
INKubator Play Lab, 2022 Bay Area Playwright’s Festival Semi Finalist). Her plays have been
developed at Art House Productions, The Workshop Theater, The Road Theatre, Exquisite
Corpse Company, Centenary Stage Company, and more. She has taught writing workshops
with Art House Productions, Circle World Arts, In Full Color Productions, and is a graduate of

Amitai Landau-Pope (he/him)

Amitai Landau-Pope is a British playwright and theatre director who has worked in the UK, Europe, and America. He is the artistic director of mealspiel, an award-winning theatre company with whom he has written and directed four plays. Amitai has a BA from Oxford and an MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Brandon Rumaker (they/them)

Brandon Rumaker (they/them) is a multidisciplinary storyteller and facilitator who creates spaces for people to examine identity, explore shared humanity, and find clarity via theater, performance art, film, tarot, and communal experiences. They are also a peer counselor at Identity House, an LGBTQIA+ volunteer service based in NYC. A fun fact: They once were paid to sit next to an Andy Warhol painting on a first class flight–it was their first and only time flying first class, but it was the painting’s second. They are excited to present a growing fantasy epic inspired by soups for this Lab. Thank you to Exquisite Corpse Co. for having me and congratulations to my fellow Summer Soup fans!
